Five Foods that Promote Clear, Glowing, and Youthful Skin

IT MIGHT SURPRISE YOU TO KNOW THAT NOT ONLY IS OUR SKIN OUR LARGEST ORGAN IN OUR BODY, BUT IT CAN ALSO BE AN INDICATOR OF OUR OVERALL INTERNAL HEALTH.

If you read Part One of my post covering my journey to health and wellness, you know that I struggled a lot with skin issues as a teenager and young adult. I distinctly remember slathering product after product on my skin (ranging from drug store to prescription), desperate to find something that worked to heal my acne. When none of those worked I resorted to covering my blemishes with thick, caked-on makeup (which Nurturing Lives all know can cover the redness, but those stubborn bumps somehow stand out even more!)

I remember one day when I was about 15, my younger cousin innocently asked if I had gotten poison ivy on my face. I ran to my room, crying and humiliated, but most of all feeling utterly helpless. I wish I had known that what you eat plays an even bigger role in the appearance of your skin than what you put on it.

Yes, you read that right! Actually, according to a podcast that I was recently listening to featuring The Spa Dr., the health and appearance of your skin is 80% about what you put into your mouth and 20% about what you’re putting on your skin topically.

It Starts with the Gut
One major reason that acne is reportedly the top skin concern in the U.S. is largely due to the fact that Americans are consuming a nutrient-poor diet filled with foods that are damaging to our health in numerous ways. When Nurturing Lives are fueling our body with less than optimal foods, it causes the health of our gut to deteriorate and the inflammation in our bodies to skyrocket.

Inflammation can present itself in a variety of ways, depending on the person. Some signs of inflammation include weight gain, inability to lose weight, aches and pains, digestive issues, lack of energy, and allergies, to name a few. Skin issues, including acne, eczema, rosacea, and psoriasis, are another major sign of inflammation in the body.

HOW CAN YOU AVOID THIS INFLAMMATION AND PROMOTE CLEAR, GLOWING, AND YOUTHFUL SKIN? IN THIS VIDEO I GIVE MY TOP 5 RECOMMENDED SKIN-LOVING FOODS, AS WELL AS 4 INFLAMMATORY FOODS TO AVOID, TO HELP YOU ACHIEVE SKIN THAT YOU ARE PROUD TO SHOW OFF.
